  • Abstract
Aim: The aim of this descriptive study was to determine the views of institutionalized mild and moderate Alzheimer s disease patients on reminiscence therapy. Method: The study was conducted on 31 patients with mild and moderate Alzheimer s disease staying at four care and rehabilitation centers between July 10 and December 20, 2013. We used the “Descriptive Information Form”, “Standardized Mini Mental Test” and “Reminiscence Therapy Evaluation Form” for the study. Descriptive statistical methods were used to evaluate the data. Results: Females made up 67.7% of the subjects and 51.6% of the group had stayed at the institution for 6 or more years. When asked what they liked about reminiscence therapy, the elderly subjects were most happy about being able to talk and be listened to, followed by reminiscing and sharing their memories. Conclusion: As a result of the study, we were able to determine that group reminiscence therapy had a positive effect on the subjects within the study sample as it enabled the subjects to know each other better, see that they had common problems but used different methods to solve them, and engage in sharing with the group.
