Abstract :
Edirneli Şahidi was one of the classical Ottoman poets of the 15th century. Edirneli Şahidi was the first poet who has written “Leyla vü Mecnûn” which was written in Anatolia. Besides this the work was also known as the longest “mesnevi” written in Anatolia. Mesnevi has 5660 couplets. The poet followed up the “Leyla vü Mecnûn”s first writer Nizami Fars literature and the classical Ottoman poet Şeyhi about theme and expres-sion. There are three manuscript copies of “Mesnevi”.It’s determined that some gazels, which are in Fuzûli’s “Divan” and “Leylâ vü Mecnûn”, are pastiche to some gazels, which are in Edirneli Şâhidî’s work. The work, which is “Leylâ vü Mecnûn” (Gülşen-i Uşşâk) of Edirneli Şâhidî, who is not noticed by the researchers up to now, has a special im-portance about language features, expression and innovations. The poet has a lyric expres-sion as Fuzûlî. There is also another im-portant thing that it’s different from it’s examples about human-God-love conceptions which are in the meaning of Islamic mysti-cism.This study points out that “Leylâ vü Mecnûn” has a special importance both in the study of Edirneli Şâhidî and the history of Turkish Literature.
