MAGICAL REALISM IN LATIFE TEKIN’S SEVGILI ARSIZ OLUM
Abstract :
Magical Realism as a concept was especially developed to shape a twentieth century movement in Latin America. The boundaries of this concept have not yet been drawn clearly. In this case, most of the time these novels are composed of the fantastic and surreal elements which should be taken into consideration within this context. The most important determinant of magical realism, to take part in a work of a combination of real and unreal is to meet people like usual for fiction in this case. Events take place although the unreal elements of magical realism is always the real world. Magical Realism is a literary approach which is novel and has not yet been fully adopted in Turkish literature. This genre was artistically adopted in one of the works that we can still credit for Latife Tekin s novel named as Sevgili Arsız Olum. In Sevgili Arsız Olum, which is the author s first novel. She gives place to the big city adventure which starts off ending in a village outside of the family. Fiction progresses in two layers. The first layer, the mythic element hosts, surreal events are processed, and the second is the section that remained in the normal flow of real life. Imaginary elements, described in the form of the family s life in the village is very intense in the first chapter. The life of families who migrated to the city in the second part, these elements of city life is reduced faced with tough and hard reality. This sort of breakdown does not disrupt the progress of the imaginary fairytale layers in the narrative. Ironic elements in the novel and surrealism help to advance towards a conflict impending. Particularly cruel irony in the direction of the section focusing on the start of the city of Aktas family life helps to soften a bit more healthy progress of the novel s fantastic texture.
