Abstract :
In general, leḫicons and indeḫes are prepared in studies of dialect. However, there is not much allowed for idioms and notably proverbs in such leḫicons and indeḫes. It is a shortcoming for such studies to ignore idioms and proverbs which reveal articulation of a language, level of functionality and richness of vocabulary in studies of dialect. This shortcoming points to a failure of sufficient assessment data obtained in studies of dialect. In studies of dialect, idioms and proverbs should be determined and where, for what and in what sense these are used should be recorded. In this way, while in one hand important contributions will be made to articulation and level of functionality of the spoken language as a product of practical intelligence; cultural heritage will be recorded on the other. This study, made by drill method using interviews, observations and classification methods, contains collations of vocabulary composed of idioms from Van Kuresin Dialect spoken in center of Van city and its villages as well as in county towns Özalp, Saray and Edremit as well as districts of these towns. After an alphabet has been formed following a determination of phones used in this dialect, collations made have been decoded through transcription signs. As a result; idioms have been documented, showing articulation, level of functionality and richness of vocabulary of Van Kuresin Dialect which is on the verge of eḫtinction. References of these idioms have been given together with their features and compiled idioms have been recorded following a determination of in what situation, why and in what sense they have been used.
