Abstract :
Food security is among the most documented topics in the literature. The health and growth of thehuman person depends on the nature of the food available to him. Food security is analyzed at theindividual, family, national, regional and world levels. The objective of this paper is to make astate of the place of food security in artisanal small scale mining sites in South Kivu province inDemocratic Republic of the Congo. Based on the survey data, the results showed that nearly 58%of the people working in the Kadumwa’s artisanal small scale mining site are food insecure. Theresults also reveal that the average income of people working in artisanal small scale mining sitesis moderately high compared to the national average (US $ 112 for female sales workers, US $195 for diggers and around US $ 1173.8 for PDG). Nevertheless, it must be emphasized that thedifference in income is very important between PDG and the rest of people in the site. Foodinsecurity in Kadumwa is mainly due to the unavailability of food.
