Abstract :
The study on the use of EN and Y pronouns evaluates the written productions of students from rural and urban areas. The aim of the study is to examine the grammatical performanceof each category of learners in order to investigate the causes of recurrent errors in written productions. For this purpose, the research findings show that, in the control of the rules governing the use of the pronouns in question, urban pupils occupy the last position, despite the evolution of these in an infrastructural and didactic environment favorable. The good infrastructural and didactic environment is thus far from being the key factor determining success in learning a second language. To this end, an investigation has revealed that among the causes of recursive inaccuracies in written productions are the phenomenon of demotivation, a result of the high rate of unemployed graduates and that of the interference of Ivorian popular French, variety evolving outside grammatical norms in Ivory Coast.
