Abstract :
With the Bolshevik victory over its opponents and the supporters of the Tsarist regime, approximately 145,000-150,000 people left Russia and came to Istanbul from April 1919 to November 1920. Those refugees greatly effected the social-economic life in Istanbul. Due to their great numbers and demands, they contributed to the rising inflation. At the same time, through cafes, restaurants, factories, etc. they brought a new spirit and stimulation to post-war economy in Istanbul. Those influences of the Russian refugees, especially the second one, have become the subject of many studies in Turkey. This article, based on the Russian archives and scholarly studies, aims to show what these Russian refugees were specifically occupied with during their stay in Istanbul in more detail and provide some numbers.
