  • Abstract
Wernicke (sensorineural) or receptive aphasia usually results from lesions at Wernicke’s area with the inability to comprehend language. Individuals with Wernicke s aphasia usually have great difficulty understanding the speech of both themselves and others with a normal hearing. Their speech is preserved, but language content is incorrect. Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is 30 dB or greater sensorineural hearing loss over at least three contiguous audiometric frequencies occurring within 3 days or less. Emergency diagnosis and treatment is required in sudden sensorineural hearing loss. The incidence of sudden sensorineural hearing loss is 5-20 in every 100 thousand patient. We want to report a 58 year old male patient who presented to our clinic by his family members with hearing impairment and treated as sudden sensorineural hearing loss which was then diagnosed as isolated Wernicke aphasia. We also want to discuss the differential diagnosis.
