Right of getting visited of conscious patients in intensive care
Abstract :
Aim. This paper aims to find out opinions, expectations and recommendations of intensive care patients with a conscious mind and their relatives about visiting Method. The research was conducted at the research and educational hospital in Adana at the ıntensive care clinic between March 1th - April 30th 2005 .Twenty-five conscious patients and 25 family members whose patients were hospitalized at the intensive care clinic agreed to participate in our survey. Permissions were obtained from the faculty ethics committee and the hospital administration. The statistical analyses of the accumulated data have been performed with SPSS 11.5 for Windows. Results. At the end of the study, it was determined that patients were mostly visited by their spouses (32%) and children (24%), that only 8% of the patients had no visitors at all. It was also made clear that most patient relatives were informed about the status of their patients and that the information was provided by doctors. Conclusion. It is determined that patients can meet their visitors with the initiative of the healthcare personnel; however during their visit, the requirements of the visitors not sufficiently being taken into account.
