Title Of Article :
The Prevalance of larval stages of small liver fluke Dicrocoelium dendriticum in the first intermediate host Helix lucorum Linnaeus, 1758 (Mollusca: Pulmonata) in Afyonkarahisar district
Abstract :
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of larval stages of Dicrocoelium dendriticum in the first intermediate host Helix lucorum which is commonly found in Afyonkarahisar district. A total of 307 snails were collected in May 2014 from pastures in Afyonkarahisar district. Each snail was anaesthetized by injection of a sterile 50 mM magnesium chlorid (MgCl2). Snails were dissected by removing their shell. The internal organs were then inspected for the presence of sporocysts and cercariae using stereo microscope. Particular attention was placed on the digestive gland and hepatopancreas. The larval stages were identified under the light microscope. The prevalence of larval stages of Dicrocoelium dendriticum in the garden snail Helix lucorum was found as %4.9 in Afyonkarahisar district. It was found that cercariae were not matured in sporocysts at the beginning of May, however it was observed that cercariae matured and started to leave sporocysts by mid-May. It was found out that Helix lucorum acts as an intermediate host to D.dendriticum in Afyonkarahisar district and cercariae leave sporocysts by mid-May.
