Abstract
Postpartum uterine infections have a great economic importance in dairy cows. The economic impact mostly originates from infertility. Culling of the cow due to infertility, reduced milk production, and the costs of the treatment renders an important problem of the infertility related to uterine infections. The uterine infections are classified as metritis, subclinical/clinical endometritis, and pyometra with regard to the occurrence time on postpartum term, presence/absence of clinical sings, type and severity of infections. Regardless of the pp uterine infection type, it would be more economical and controlled approach to evaluate the problems interrelated with metabolic and uterine pathologies, and on the basis of herd rather than individual cows in 3-4 weeks of prepartum and 3-4 weeks of pp period; also, the treatment strategies should be planned according to interactions of microorganisms and immune response.
