Determination of effects of hazelnut harvesting with the pneumatic hazelnut harvester over operator fatigue

In this study, the number of heart beats, maximum number of heart beats, total energy consumption and rest periods of operator were determined during hazelnut harvesting using pneumatic hazelnut harvester in different yield of orchard conditions. According to the results, operator energy consumption per minute conjunction with increasing orchard yield was determined between 10.47 and 21.33 kcal. Daily working hours of operator considering energy consumption values were identified as 6-7 h day^-1 when orchard yields were between 71.74 kg da^-1 and 143.48 kg da^-1, and 3-4 h day^-1 when orchard yields were 215.23, 286.97 and 358.72 kg da^-1. Additionally, it is determined that operator must spare 35-40 minutes of an hour to rest when orchard yields were 71.74 kg da^-1 and 143.48 kg da^-1, and operator spare 45-50 minutes to rest when orchard yields were 215.23, 286.97 and 358.72 kg da^-1. Consequentlly, working with pneumatic hazelnut harvester gets into the heavy-duty class, due to energy consumption of operator during hazelnut was over 10 kcal min^-1 in all conditions of orchards yield.
