  • Abstract
    At the requirement list, provision for food and beverage comes first as a basic and indispensable need. The food and beverage industry can be seen as the mark of essential source of nutrition. Around the world, it is the food and beverage industry that has been the basis of economic development. The food and beverage industry with backward and forward affiliations is a sector providing for dynamisms of economic development. The food and beverage industry is a sub-sector of manufacturing industry. Economic performance is measured by the development in manufacturing industry. In this study, it is a finding thatinvestment demands and capacity enlargement in the manufacturing industry did not increase at the expected level. In turn, such fact indicates that the external dependency of Turkish economy, which has a high score, would highly likely increase. When it is thought with increasing demand for food in the world, it may be claimed that a food and beverage industry with a capacity of producing goods at international standards can be the steam engine of the economy. According to the 2011 Household Budget Research by TÜIK, across the country the highest score (25,8 %) belongs to housing and renting within the composition of household expenditure, the food and non-alcoholic drinks gets 20,7% of household budget , while health expenditure 1,9 % and education 2%.
