Abstract :
Religion, which is one of the oldest institutions of mankind, is an expression of individuals’ desire for enlightenment and understanding the world. As religion meets the need of individuals for inner peace and faith, and presents a reference source for their decisions, it is main building structure of society. It cannot be thought that the analyses having social and political content, the studies having themes on factors in forming of individuals’ political behavior and shaping individual attitudes do not take religion or its various perceived and experienced forms into consideration. Religion having important role in forming political identities, and its perception by man, is widely analyzed in the studies having theme on political behavior and political effects of religion is tried to be understood. The main question of this study is whether religiousness has influence on political behaviors, if it has, what extend does it effect? After a short theoretical introduction, application of a comprehensive survey is planned to find answer that question. In the application part of the study, by testing the hypotheses, it is tried to be reached consistent results which can be generalized. In the light of introduced findings, we reached the conclusion that religion is directly effective on forming political attitude and behaviors. Additionally, in the issues of fundamental rights and freedoms, there is a common support for expanding area of freedom in the society, this situation comes out independent from approach to religion.
