Abstract :

Purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between education faculty students’ subjective well-being levels and their spirituality, optimism, anxiety and negative affectivity. Sample was 875 undergraduate students (587 female, 288 male) at Uludağ University, Faculty of Education in the 2011-2012 academic year. “Positive and Negative Affect Scale-PANAS” (Watson, Clark Tellegens, 1988) and “The Satisfaction With Life Scale” (Diener, Emmans, Larsen Griffin, 1983) were used to determine levels of subjective well-being. “The Life Orientation Test-LOT” (Scheiver Carver, 1985) was used to measure optimism levels, “State-Trait Anxiety Inventory–STAI” (Spielberg, 1970), to measure anxiety levels, and “Spirituality Scale” (Korkut- Owen Karaırmak, 2009) to measure spirituality levels, “Personal Information Form”, developed by the researcher was used to obtain demographic data of students. SPSS 11.5 statistics program was used for dataanalysis. Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to test for differences between independent groups. Spearman’s rank order correlation method was used in order to determine the relationship between subjective well-being and psychological variables. Results revealed that there was a significant correlation between research variables and subjective well-being. Students’ levels of subjective well-being differed with respect to gender and academic major, significantly. Implications for research and college counseling practice are discussed
