Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of primary school fourth graders on the empathic tendencies of family relationships. The research was carried out in a public school in Istanbul in the academic year of 2016-2017, students studying in the 4th grade. There are a total of 292 students, 143 of whom are girls and 149 are men. In the study, Family Relationships Scale for Children was used to measure the family relationships of the students, Child and Adolescent KA-SI Empathic Tendency Scale to measure their empathic tendencies, and personal information form for demographic information. In the analysis of the data, t test, One-way ANOVA, Correlation Analysis, and Multiple Regression Analysis were used. As a result of the research, emotional and cognitive empathy level of the girls and discouraging family relationship levels were found higher. Empathic tendency and family relationships did not differ according to the number of siblings and the state of mother work. As a result of this study, the students’ emotional and cognitive empathy levels of the students with supportive family relationship increase.
