    THE CURRENT APPROACH TO CANCER TREATMENT: BIOTHERAPY AND NURSING MANAGEMENT

  • Abstract
    Biotherapy is used to describe the use of biologic agents to activate the immun system. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines biotherapy as ‘the use of living organisms or products derived from living organismis to produce modify or improve a plan tor animal for a specific purpose. The use of biotherapy as a treatment for cancer is increasing. Nurses need to be knowledge about this treatment to provide optimal patient care. Providing quality care for patients biotherapy nursing management of patients biotherapy needs to be planned as the individual specific. Nurses should provide four areas when caring for the patient receiving biotherapy: side effects management, patient education, economic issues, and psychosocial issues. Nurses to minimize side effects and patient initiatives which are necessary to ensure the comfort of initiatives are planned. Nurses in fatigue and other symptoms of the patients in activities of daily living activities to help plan and helps the patients symptoms can be tolerated. Patient and family in terms of side effects, side effects in the field of observation and reporting of training should be given. As healthcare moves to into the year 2000, the area of biotherapy will see mora FDA-approved agents used as Standard cancer treatment. Nurses who provide care for persons with cancer need to understand this treatment approach and to participate actively in its development. This article is a new concept in patient care biyoterapi and biyoterapi field will be discussed.
