SEXUAL FUNCTION AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN WOMEN AFTER HYSTERECTOMY
Abstract :
Objective: In this study was planned and performed in order to determine the sexual function and quality of life in women after total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH).Methods: In descriptive study, 224 women who underwent TAH surgery before one year ago and admitted gynecology outpatient clinic for check at State Hospitals in western Turkey. Celal Boyar University scientific ethics committee and patient consent was obtained before research. In collecting data, patient socio demographic form and Index of Female Sexual Function (IFSF) and SF-36 Quality of Life Scale were used. Data collection forms were filled in face-to-face interview method of approximately 15-20 minutes. The analyses of the data were obtained by using descriptive statistical and Students t test in SPSS 15.0.Results: The mean age women were 48.25±4.77 years. The women who 73.4% experienced psychological problem, 22.32% change in marital relationships, 24.6% influenced by the sexual life, 23.7% vaginal dryness, 15.2% urine and stool missed and 58.9% sexual function disorder (SFD) was determined after TAH.The subscales scores of SF-36 were high and subscales scores of IFSF were medium after the TAH. There were statistical differences between sexual dysfunction and subscales scores of IFSF. IESF subscale scores and quality of life related to sexual function were low in women with sexual dysfunction.Conclusion: As a result of study, operation ofTAH wasn t negative effect to sexual function and all dimensions of quality of life.
