Abstract :
The Turkish language which has been used in a very large geography and which has a big history has so richness with its many aspects. There is no doubt that one of these richnesses is the abundance and variety of the names of animals. The Turkish Nation who live with the nature nested met many more animals in accordance with their nomadic life and gave names these animals according to their language. Kaplan (tiger) is one of them.At this article, the ethimology of this name that has not been investigated more till now was investigated. It was seen at the result of the researches that the kaplan word sprang up from the kap-verb and take its current shape at the end of different sound events.
