An Interesting and Contradictory Example of Its Type:The Mawlid of Sheikh Ahmed Husam al-Din
Abstract :
“Mawlid” as a word can be described in a simple manner as literally “place or date of birth”. When taken as a literary genre the term of Mawlid, generally accepted to define as a kind of piece which describing birth of the prophet Muhammad. However, all Mawlids in our literature do not explain the prophet Muhammad’s birth. Thusly the Mawlid that will be introduced in this essay has written for another person. Actually the vast majority of the mawlids in Turkish literature deals with Muhammed’s birth. But we know that some of these pieces deal with other exalted people of religion, such as Hazrat Ali and Hazrat Fatima. The Mawlid which will be introduced here by us, has not written for the four caliphs, twelve imams which mean prayer leaders in Islam or other exalted people of religion. Even this work are not drafted for the companions of the prophet Muhammed or the founders of the sects. This piece has written by a person who uses a pseudonym “Necâtî”, and deals with his sheikh’s birth in an unusual way. From this point this is the only known example which consists of one hundred and ten couplets and has written in Masnavi style. Also it is an interesting and contradictory example of its kind because of using some phrases for his sheikh. The only known copy of the piece is in personal library of M. Fatih Köksal. The person who is described his birth in this Mawlid is Ahmed Husam al-din who is a sheikh of Naqshbandi and originally from Daghestan. We know that he has strolled Mekka, Medina and some places of Anatolia. But the last station of his route was İstanbul. Primarily in this article, Sheikh Ahmed Husam al-Din will be introduced and after the introduction will be given some informations about this mawlid and published full text of the piece.
