Matrix metalloprotinases: effects on dental tissues and caries
Abstract :
Since relationship between oral diseases and microorganisms have been revealed treatment options were focused to terminate those microorganisms. However; today s researches show that host response and host related factors have influence on diseases and their progress. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are one of those host related factors. MMP s act as a degradative extracelular matrix protein during organogenesis, growth and tissue transformation processes. This review is about; systemic effects of MMP s and their roles in disease progression and treatment options.
