Abstract
The change in the concepts of cavity preparation and the production of reliable adhesive materials lead to the development of alternative methods of caries removal. Painless, minimal intervention and thus giving comfort, relief and instill positive attitude toward dental treatments, are some of the factors justifying the specialty of pediatric dentistry. Chemomechanical caries removal method is a conservative and atraumatic alternative and recently comes up again by means of developed a new chemomechanical caries removal agent papainbased gel (Papacárie®, Fórmula Ação, Sao Paulo, Brazil). The purpose of this paper is to perform a comprehensive review of the literature regarding chemomechanical caries removal methods, including the most recently available caries removal agent.
