Abstract :
It is well known that leather, having a large range of usage in the lives of Turks, was used in the making of such materials of the need of the army as boots, harnessing, tirkeş, quivers, bowstring, drum, kös (big durum) from the establishment of Ottoman Empire onwards. Today, our country will document the art museums and collections are examples in the leather. Especially in Istanbul Harbiye Military Museum has a wide range of leather equipment of war. These studies in the Istanbul Harbiye Military Museum leather samples of shields are emphasized. Most of the shields that could be preserved today are Ottoman originated or made by imitating the Ottoman shields. These should be specifically examined .For this reason, leather shield examples of materials used, production and decoration techniques, shape, color and ornamentation in detail in terms of features and tried to introduce were documented.
