Negative Effect of Foliar Zinc Sulphate Application on Granny Smith Apple Variety

Abstract
This study carried out to investigate the effect of foliar ZnSO4.7H2O application on leaf and fruit Zn and some other nutrient concentrations and fruit damage in Granny Smith variety grafted on M9 rootstock. In the study, ZnSO4.7H2O fertilizer was applied in three different doses (0.05 %, 0.1 % and 0.2 %) in three different periods (one, two and three times after full bloom with 15 days intervals. Plant nutrient concentrations of leaves, fruits and fruit skin samples were analysed and detection of the severity of damage to fruit samples were identified (0-5 scale). According to results, leaves and fruits Zn, Fe, Mn, Cu ve P concentrations were adversely affected at different significance levels from zinc doses, number of foliar application and their interactions. As a result of the study, foliar ZnSO4.7H2O applications caused fruit damage loading to unfavourable fruit appearance in all application dose and in all application times.
