SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC SITUATION OF LOCAL MEDIA EMPLOYEES AND OUTLOOK OF LOCAL MEDIA PROBLEMS: A STUDY IN KAYSERİ AND NEVŞEHİR
Abstract :
Democracy, which is one of the indispensable elements of the media, has several functions such as making the news, giving information, making public opinion and controlling the government. Besides the general functions of journalism, local media has also some specific functions such as reflecting the opinion of local people and protecting local values. Local media has a very important impact on regional people, so in order to fulfill its functions efficiently, the problems such as economic failure, lack of qualified staff, the news contents’ being uniform should be solved. Local media workers’ being worked with low fees, their not having social security and their not working in a suitable conditions cause the incerasing of the existing problems more and more. In this study, it has been aimed to state the socio-democrafic features of the people who work in Kayseri and Nevşehir media sector, to examine the problems of the local media and to find the opinion of the media workers about the sector. Finding the local media workers’ perspectives about the problems of the local media will provide bringing different solutions to the problems.
