Abstract :
Emotional intelligence is series of qualifications which prepare individual to changes and opportunities that life can bring and are called by some people as character. These qualifications can make individual recognize his/her own feelings, control them, free himself/herself from the captivity of these feelings and have correct communication with other people. Being aware of feelings, distinguishing them and giving correct reactions towards them play a determinative role both social and academic lives of an individual. Emotional skills that a child gained from his/her own primary social environment must be supported. In educational process, Turkish lesson can provide important facilities in developing emotional skills. In order to make Turkish lesson this happen, Turkish curriculum must be prepared in a way that it can improve these emotional skills. In this study, the available Turkish curriculum (6th, 7th and 8th grades) searched in accordance with the skills that establish emotional intelligence. In the study, firstly theoretical knowledge about emotional intelligence are presented and then curriculums are studied according to emotional intelligence model which divides personal and social capacities into five main categories, and finally findings are evaluated by using context analysis method. It is determined that Turkish curriculum (6th, 7th and 8th grades) weren’t prepared with consideration of emotional intelligence skills. However, it’s found out that only a part of emotional skills, especially social skills take place in curriculum as it is a language teaching one.
