Abstract :
When analyzed the practices referring to media literacy all around the world, it is seen that two types of practices as “Independent Course Approach” and “Integration Approach” come into prominence. “Independent Course Approach” means integrating media literacy into the educational system as a seperate course. However, “Integration Approach” means associating media literacy education with a course which is available in educational system. In accordance with “Integration Approach” it is seen that the major course associated with media literacy education is the mother langugage education course. The purpose of this study is to reveal the reasons of associating media litercay education with Turkish courses. The study consists of two chapters. In the first chapter, the change in goals, gains and practices referring to mother langugage education, in accordance with life skills related to 21th century, is tried to be revealed. In the second chapter, the advantages of associating media literacy education with Turkish are formed under six main reasons. The integration of media literacy education with Turkish courses could be seen as an important factor for the extension of the courses which is under the control of printed documents with the content of visual and audial media messages surrounding the students. Besides, it could be thought that the Turkish courses, carried out in accordance with this approach, could fulfill the principle referring to proximity to life.
