Title Of Article :
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAMILY FUNCTIONING AND MATHEMATICS SUCCESS
Abstract :
Purpose of the study is to identify possible relationship between functioning of students’ family and their mathematical achievement. The research is based on analytical survey methodology and the study group consisted of 319 grade 7 and 8 students. As research tools “Mathematical Achievement Test” (Çanakçı, 2008) and “Family Functioning Scale” Bulut (1990) was utilized. Statistical methods were used to identify possible relationship between several subscales of family functioning and mathematical achievement. Results indicates a significant relationship between mathematical achievement and several subscales of family functioning (problem solving, roles, affective responsiveness, general functions). As the subscale general functions indicative of general overview of the scale it confirms a relationship between students’ mathematical achievement and functioning of their family.
