Abstract
The authors present solutions to startup problems of a voltage-source series inverter with a transformer-coupled induction heating load. Two new inverter configurations are introduced, and their operating characteristics and design criteria described. The type-A inverter uses an auxiliary starting inverter to latch and commutate the switches of the main inverter and is suitable for any load-Q 0. The type-B inverter has a simple circuit configuration and a self-starting capability; however, it is only suitable for Q 0<12. The operational characteristics of both inverters are verified experimentally
