Abstract :
This paper briefly reviews those salient factors which influence the operation of EHF MILSATCOM systems. This review is presented to establish a basis for research and development efforts that will be important during the next decade. Current and projected SATCOM frequency bands are presented first in order to establish the potential operating frequency bands that must be considered. This is followed by spatial and tempera1 interference suppression techniques and their dependence on operating frequency. Next, the effect of atmospheric and rain attenuation are summarized. Finally, the recommended R6D effprts, the expected time when these advances in technology are required, and the profitable sponsors are presented.
