Abstract
If high intensity discharge (HID) lamps are operated with non-resonant inverters, the preferred ignition method consists of an igniter in series with the lamp. This igniter usually includes an inductor, because of the secondary winding of a step-up transformer. This series inductance could have undesirable effects on steady state lamp operation. Presented is a HID lamps series igniter, with negligible effect in lamp steady state waveforms. A prototype has been built and tested, and experimental results are shown.
