Abstract
For upcoming fusion experiments and future fusion reactors, superconducting magnets have been chosen or considered which employ cooling by pool-boiling HeI, by HeII, and by internally flowing HeI. The choice of conductor and cooling method should be determined in part by the response of the magnet to sudden localized heat pulses of various magnitudes. The paper describes the successful computer simulation of multiple stability in internally cooled conductors, as observed experimentally, using the computer code SSICC. It also describes the modelling of helium replenishment in the cooling channels of a bath-cooled conductor, using the computer code TASS.
