Abstract :
The contribution of nonlinear gain to the FM modulation index and relaxation oscillation damping factor for a multi-mode laser is calculated and measured. The nonlinear gain term obtained from the measured FM modulation index of a 1.3 ¿m InGaAsP laser is used to predict the optical intensity modulation response. Excellent agreement between prediction and observation are obtained.
