Abstract :
The axial fibre strain is evaluated from measurement of the frequency shift of the anti-Stokes wave generated by the stimulated four-photon mixing process. The result evaluated experimentally is in good agreement with that predicted theoretically for a single-mode fibre with low intrinsic birefringence.
