Abstract :
An investigation into the effects of carbon content and heat treatment on the magnetic properties of steels has been carried out. This is a precursor to more extensive work on the influence of microstructure on the magnetic properties of Fe-C alloys. It has been found that for similar heat treatments the coercivity and remanent magnetisation increase with carbon content. Different heat treatments of the same specimen also affect the magnetic properties.
