Abstract
The authors describe a new deterministic algorithm for endless reset-free polarization control (PC) based on sequences of tunable phase shifters and directional couplers, which can be implemented in a variety of discrete (e.g., rotating waveplates) and integrated optic material platforms. They provide a novel quantitative formulation of what endless reset-free PC operation means and prove in a rigorous way that the algorithm satisfies the defined requirements.
