Abstract :
The authors show that third-order dispersion can lead to a serious decrease in the effectiveness of pulse switching in a nonlinear directional coupler. In contrast to the case of vanishing third-order dispersion, the pulse shape is a crucial limitation. The influence of the third-order dispersion diminishes when the coupling coefficient decreases.
