Abstract :
Digital algorithms for electric power measurements are represented as 2-D digital finite-impulse-response (FIR) filters applied on voltage and current samples. Based on this approach, a novel technique for algorithm design is developed. The technique provides a convenient way to design new algorithms for measuring the electric power components according to various definitions in both sinusoidal and nonsinusoidal conditions. Several new algorithms are derived by using the proposed design technique. The existing algorithms for power measurements are also derived by using the new approach. The algorithm performance was tested using actual signal recordings
