Abstract :
Present practise in the design of automatic hydroelectric generating stations is reviewed. Various methods of starting and controlling are listed together with their limitations. Certain points in dispute, such as the TW R2 required for speed regulation and brakes for bearing protection are presented in the hope that discussion will aid in clarifying the situation to such a degree as to permit of standardization of practise. A brief description of the sequence of operations in a modern automatic switching equipment, is given.
