Abstract
During ice storms, transmission line systems can be extensively damaged due to galloping conductors. The design of support structures and components requires a means to determine the dynamic forces during galloping. This paper presents a procedure for determining the forces on insulators and crossarms due to the large amplitude vibration of ice-loaded conductors. Wind tunnel experiments were conducted to verify the design procedure and to increase understanding of the galloping phenomenon
