Abstract
From online shopping to Web-based communities to on-demand videos, the Internet has proven its mettle. The Internet is also struggling to support an increasing number of new uses it wasn´t built for, such as mobile applications. Researchers have come up with patches to let current Internet technology cope with new developments. With this in mind, scientists throughout the world are looking at a large-scale overhaul of some basic Internet elements to eliminate the need to constantly create workarounds to meet challenges. They are conducting what some call clean-slate-lnternet research. The Internet´s top three challenges are large-scale support for mobility, efficient content dissemination, and security.
