Abstract :

The "dc" Kerr constant of CS2has been measured at 10.6 μm and found to be $(2.9 \\pm 0.8) \\times 10^{-8}$ statvolt^-2cm. This yields a value of $(2.1 \\pm 0.7) \\times 10^{-11}$ statvolt^-2cm²for the nonlinear refractive index.
