Abstract :
The inherent stability and low impedance of a mercury cell are utilized in conjunction with an electronic active compensation circuit to obtain a load-independent reference voltage. The results obtained show that, for any load current up to 2 mA, the stability of the source is only slightly degraded as compared to the unloaded mercury cell. The drift observed is, however, linear and is of no consequence for the intended application where measurements are made in a symmetrical order to cancel out the influence of linear drift
