Abstract :
The potential use of POWERCORE strip for the fabrication of low-loss stacked cores was investigated. Two three-phase transformer cores having different joint configurations were assembled and tested (core A: 90° butt and lap T and corner joints; core B: 45-90° T-joints and 45° mitred corner joints). 50-Hz core losses at 1.3 T are promising: 0.32 W/Kg (core A) and 0.36 W/Kg (core B). The power results are, however, problematic: 22 VA/Kg and 11 VA/Kg, respectively. The probable causes of this behavior are reported. The harmful effect of a clamping pressure applied to the core was investigated
