  • Abstract
The recent report of the US National Research Council (NRC) presents the views of the multidisciplinary Committee on Elementary Particle Physics concerning the current state of experimental particle physics in the US. In 2007, Europe expects to replace the US as home to the accelerator with the highest beam energy when CERN´s Large Hadron Collider begins operation. The US also faces the prospect of not having any major accelerator-based experiments by 2010 as the two leading machines in the country are both set to expire in the next few years. For these reasons, the NRC report urges the government to spend up to $500 million on linear collider R&D to lure the project to the US
