Abstract :
An open gradient magnetic separator using the superconducting solenoid magnet was theoretically and experimentally studied. The basic separation characteristics of our separation method were investigated by analysing the dynamic motion of magnetic particles. The simulation results showed that the separation of ferromagnetic particles of several tens micro-meter diameter is enough feasible. Separation experiment using a 2 T and 5 T conduction-cooled superconducting magnets was performed to verify the validity of our method.
