Abstract :
A dc gas-discharge display panel in which the metal cathodes are isolated from the gas by an MgO/metal cermet film is described. The use of such a film results in sufficient resistance to prevent electrical coupling between cells. At the same time, the low-work-function MgO provides a relatively high secondary-electron emission which results in a low operating voltage. Of interest is the fact that, despite the absence of isolating barriers between cells, no serious problems of crosstalk between cells occurs. Results on the aging characteristics of the cermet films are also described.
