Abstract :
The authors demonstrate the long-term stability of a Ti:LiNbO3 external modulator transmitter and its performance in the field with 770 km 1.3 mu m zero-dispersion fibre in the ground at a wavelength of 1.557 mu m and data rate of 2.5 Gbit/s. The chromatic dispersion penalty at 770 km, corresponding to 127551 ps/nm dispersion, was measured to be approximately 0.6 dB.
