Abstract
The article demonstrates how the services of National ISDN can be used to meet the demands of transaction-oriented applications in the retail industry. The data applications discussed are credit/debit authorization, inventory management, and credit account database access. Public network solutions using various National ISDN features and complementary telecommunication devices with a market focus are employed for the above applications. Further, the article discusses the evolution of telecommunications devices from a standards point of view and discusses the progress made in this area.<>
