Abstract :
The ARM996HS, a synthesizable 32-bit CPU built using clockless logic, is implemented from scratch using the handshake technology Timeless Design Environment (TiDE) design flow. The ARM996HS processor, fully compatible with ARM´s ARMv5TE instruction set architecture (ISA) and Debug Architecture, is the first in a series of licensable, clockless CPUs available from ARM. It consumes about one-third the power of comparable synchronous, clock-gated, arm cores implementing the same ISA. The ARM996HS targets applications in areas where the needs for ultralow power, low electromagnetic emissions, and high robustness converge.
